Milan - Capital of Fashion by Nick Cox

[May 21, 2008]

If you're in search of glitz and glamour, then the Italian city of Milan is probably one of the best places to be. It's one of Europe's wealthiest cities, renowned the world over as the capital of fashion and design.

Milan endured heavy bombing during World War II, but fortunately the majority of the cultural and artistic treasures managed to survive relatively unscathed.

If you have a love of fashion then a trip to Milan is probably an obvious choice. The city of Milan is home to some of the world's most influential fashion designers. So, if high-end fashion is your thing then Milan certainly delivers on all fronts.

Milan has no shortage of luxury hotels to choose from. One of the cities most prestigious, the Grand Hotel et de Milan, is one example of the 5 star luxury hotels on offer. If your budget can accommodate it then you could treat yourself to a night in the presidential Giuseppe Verdi suite. All the original furnishings, including the desk where he composed many operas, have been preserved since the famous composer lived out his final 30 years here.

Milan doesn't consist solely of 5 star luxury hotels, there's also a wide variety of cheap hotels available for the more budget conscious traveller.

Booking in advance is advisable, especially during the peak season. Shop around for the best deals and make use of the internet; there's a growing number of price comparison websites now available that increase your chances of finding the lowest prices.

A father is asked by his friend, "Has your son decided what he wants to be when he grows up?" "Yes, he wants to be a garbage collector," replied the boy's father.
His friend thought for a moment and responded, "That's a rather strange ambition to have for a career." "Well," said the boy's father, "he thinks that garbage collectors only work on Tuesdays!"
