Heavy Martial Artists - Becoming a Cement-Filled Refrigerator in a Fight by Keith Pascal

[Dec 24, 2007]

Have you ever hit someone and expected to knock the person backwards, but your punch had little or no effect?

Bruce Lee worked out on a super-heavy, giant kicking and punching bag. He wanted to be able to move a hulking giant.

He was able to blast through a muscle-bound enemy. Very few others could/can.

Most of the time, we look at this equation from the point of view of the person trying to move the giant refrigerator of a man. But what about the big, solid guy?

What all of this means is that if you are heavy, you can also learn to be solid: You train to move with your center of gravity lowered. That's a key component for you. Lower your center...Your hips are settled.

Leaving Some Areas Unprotected

Rather than concentrating on making yourself into a small target, you protect your vulnerable areas, leaving some of your meatier areas slightly more open. And you train to make your body solid ... not all soft blubber, but rather a cement-filled refrigerator hidden beneath some excess padding. Still, very solid underneath.
